By Hugh Westacott

This short memoir describes the wartime evacuation of an undersized, short-sighted, twelve-year-old suburban schoolboy to Colyton in 1944 when London came under attack from German flying bombs. It describes his reaction to living with another family and the effect that this happy experience has had on the rest of his life. It is a multi-layered love story for Colyton; for England; and for a young girl who befriended him.

Part Two explores how his experiences as an evacuee and his love of Colyton have shaped his opinions about wokery, cancel culture, the distortion of British history, and the trashing of the values for which his father’s generation fought in the Second World War.
