The Seaton Down Hoard will be the subject of an exciting talk to Colyton Parish History Society at Colyford Memorial Hall at 7.30 pm on Wednesday 26 April 2017
The presentation by Thomas Cadbury, Assistant Curator at the Royal Albert Memorial Museum, Exeter will include exhibits and a slide show and will explain how this fantastic Roman hoard was discovered. An amateur metal detector made the amazing find on land owned by Clinton Devon Estates. Consisting of over 22,000 Roman coins it is the largest such find in Devon. Why was it buried? Who buried it? Was it wages for workers, or the savings of a rich merchant? Will we ever know? Come along and find out more about this nationally important find.
Doors open 7.00pm. Members £1, Non-Members £2 refreshments included
