Next summer the Parish History Society is planning to organise a “Cloth and Lace Day” event here in Colyton with demonstrations, entertainment and a specially themed town walk. More information about this event will be available in the New Year.
As part of the preparations for ‘Cloth and Lace Day’, we are looking for examples of lace actually made here in Colyton. Honiton lace – see above – is the one most likely to have been made here – as it was produced all over East Devon, but it would be interesting to see any lace samples which were actually made here in Colyton, even if not the Honiton lace type.
It would also be very exciting to discover a sample of Colyton chromatic lace as only one piece is known to exist and is held by the V&A Museum.
Do you or anyone you know have any historic pieces of Colyton made lace you would be prepared to lend the Society for display on the day? If so please could you contact Jan Hedderly at ( jan.hedderly@btinternet.com ) or Bridget Spear at (bjanegiles@aol.co.uk ) who are organising the event. They would be delighted to hear from you.
Other times by appointment - please contact us via this website.
